If your view looked a little duller this morning, you weren't imagining things. As of 8am today, 21 areas across the country were recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index readings, with Sarawak once again bearing the brunt of it.
Serian led the unhealthy list with a reading of 182, followed closely by Samarahan and Sri Aman. Over in the Klang Valley, Cheras in Kuala Lumpur was the only spot to cross into unhealthy territory, sitting at 133. Johor, Putrajaya and Selangor also had pockets of poor air, a pattern that's become familiar over the past couple of weeks as smoke drifting in from regional fires continues to settle over the peninsula and Borneo.
On the brighter side, 41 areas were still in the moderate range and five areas recorded good air quality, so this isn't a blanket, nationwide crisis. Still, health authorities continue to advise the usual precautions: cut back on strenuous outdoor activity, keep an eye on the elderly and young children, and mask up if you're in one of the more affected districts. The haze has been a recurring headache this September, and with dry conditions persisting across parts of Sumatra and Kalimantan, it may be a few more weeks before the sky properly clears.
