The Southeast Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) recorded 1,493 cross-border crime cases between January 1 and November 1 this year, resulting in 1,733 arrests and seizures worth more than RM82.56 million, according to Bernama via Malay Mail on Tuesday (November 3).
Commander's remarks
Brigade commander Datuk Ahmad Radzi Hussain spoke to reporters in Tumpat after a handover ceremony between the GOF 9th and 7th Battalions for Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan. He said the results reflect his personnel's dedication in safeguarding national security and sovereignty. GOF has strengthened its intelligence capabilities and raised awareness of emerging threats, particularly the use of alternative routes and hidden locations by cross-border criminals trying to avoid detection. He said the force cannot rely only on conventional approaches or wait for threats to emerge, and must identify changes in criminals' patterns and methods.
Assessments and illegal immigration
Ahmad Radzi said each battalion must assess its operational area, identify high-risk locations and regularly update intelligence so operations focus on prevention and risk assessment. On illegal immigration, he said operations go beyond arrests to uncovering syndicate networks, those facilitating illegal crossings and individuals shielding migrants' movements. A comprehensive and sustained preventive approach is needed, he added.
As of the previous day, 921 undocumented migrants of various nationalities had been detained, made up of 802 in Kelantan, 104 in Pahang and 15 in Terengganu.
