Police have arrested nine people following an alleged riot outside a cafe in Desa Tun Razak, Sungai Besi, which investigators believe stemmed from a dispute over business territory. Malay Mail reported the arrests on Monday (November 2), citing Kosmo and Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus.
What happened
The incident took place at about 11pm on Sunday. Officers from the Sungai Besi police station's Motorcycle Patrol Unit, the Cheras district Criminal Investigation Department and other Cheras personnel were sent to the scene after police received information about the disturbance. Preliminary investigations found the fight stemmed from a disagreement over business territory in the area.
The arrests
Eight men and one woman, aged between 16 and 44, were arrested near the scene, including two individuals identified as main suspects. Police said most of those detained had previous records involving criminal and drug-related offences. Several items believed to have been used in the incident were seized, and all nine suspects were remanded to assist investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting while armed, which carries a maximum jail term of five years, a fine, or both.
Latest development
In a later report, Malay Mail said Cheras police have ruled out racial or gang links in the clash and are seeking 15 more suspects. Fadil urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information that could interfere with the probe. Anyone with information can contact the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or the Cheras district police headquarters.
