Pakatan Harapan (PH) has lodged a police report against Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Khaidirah Abu Zahar over allegations that she used government premises and machinery while campaigning for the Rim seat in the 16th Melaka state election, Malay Mail and Bernama reported on Monday (November 2).
The allegations
PKR Central Leadership Council member Siti Aishah Shaik Ismail said the report was filed at the Jasin district police headquarters. She alleged that Khaidirah attended an event where contributions were presented to about 30 recipients in conjunction with Deepavali, and that it was held at the Rim Japerun Complex, a building that previously served as her office. According to Siti Aishah, such a venue should no longer be used for politically oriented programmes once the state assembly has been dissolved. She also claimed the food baskets carried a label linked to the Jasin Municipal Council, suggesting government-funded contributions, and that several council officials wore attire showing the face of a local Umno leader.
What PH wants
Siti Aishah said photographs and recordings had been submitted to police and that all evidence would go to the Election Commission (EC) the next day. She urged an immediate, transparent and independent investigation. She stressed that PH does not dispute the public's right to receive aid, but said the involvement of a BN candidate raises serious questions about possible use of government resources to give an unfair advantage. These are allegations, and the report does not include a response from Khaidirah.
Election details
PH has fielded Esma Eazreen Husin in a one-on-one contest against Khaidirah in Rim. Polling day is November 14, with early voting on November 10.
