Pakatan Harapan (PH) formally launched its Melaka election machinery on Sunday, October 25, 2026, with Prime Minister and PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announcing 21 candidates who will carry the coalition’s banner in the state polls. The event was held at the Hang Jebat Stadium grounds in Melaka City. Anwar told the crowd that elections should be a platform to explain government achievements, policies and future plans, not an arena for insulting opponents or inciting hostility.
Anwar urged Melaka voters to reject politics of hatred based on race and religion and to build the state and the country together. His message came as the campaign prepares to heat up after nomination day on October 31. A day earlier, on Saturday, he addressed the Sentuhan Kasih Madani programme and the launch of the National Cost of Living Action Plan 2030, also at the Hang Jebat Sports Complex, linking cost-of-living relief to the government’s record.
PH has said it vetted its candidates through checks including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, and that those selected must sign a party bond with financial penalties for breaches. PH communications director Fahmi Fadzil had promised a blend of fresh faces and experienced politicians. PKR vice-president Amirudin Shari said the party would field seasoned figures, young people and women from various ethnic groups, and in some seats where support is thin it would allow candidates to gain experience. PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said her party would contest nine seats.
PH enters the polls with a modest base after winning five seats in 2021. Analysts say the coalition’s fortunes will depend on whether it can attract Malay voters while holding non-Malay support, and on whether it reaches an understanding with BN. PH’s presidential council had earlier said no political pact had been finalised.
What to watch: the final list of seats contested by each PH component party, any last-minute pact with BN, and how PN-linked parties position themselves after the court ruling on their coalition’s registration.
